DESCRIPTION:Logan Office of Economic Development (LOED) has partnered with Griffith University Tax Clinic to present you with this workshop. \nCommencing a business is difficult with many decisions required to be made. One of the decisions that sometimes is overlooked is the ‘tax’ implications of running a business. Tax is an important consideration as ignoring it can result in penalties and interest charges\, but it can also influence the cash flow of the business. This series of workshops will provide an overview of business cash flow and how tax can influence it. \nAbout the workshop:\nThis workshop will consider how the various types of taxes (particularly income tax and GST) can influence a business’s cash flow\, not only in terms of profit margin but also when payments are due. The workshop will also look at: \n\nCash flow concept\nHow tax (income tax\, GST and superannuation) can influence cash flow\, and\nHow hiring workers influence cash flow and tax obligations.\n\nAbout the presenter:\nBrett Freudenberg\nBrett Freudenberg is a Professor – Taxation at Griffith University (Australia). \nBrett is known for his research expertise in the tax law and policy issues facing private enterprises\, as evidenced by his Fulbright Scholarship (2006) and over 90 refereed publications in leading Australian and international journals. \nBrett is passionate about education being a transformative process\, and his effectiveness as a teacher has been recognised through five national awards (including the award of two Australian Learning and Teaching Council citations: 2008 & 2011). \nDr Melissa Belle\nDr Melissa Belle Isle is a lecturer in taxation law. Melissa’s research focuses on Australian small business cash flow concerns due to taxation and owner literacy. \nMelissa is also passionate about improving the tax literacy of Australians and regularly delivers learning opportunities to community groups to assist with increases in literacy. However\, if you’re self-employed\, it could be a good idea to consider your retirement needs and understand how paying yourself super could benefit you and your business. What you may not realise\, is you could be legally required to pay yourself super based on how your business is set up.
