One of the first decisions that need to be made is what business structure to use. The business structure might as a sole trader\, partnership\, company or trust. This decision affects many legal relationships\, as well as tax. This series of workshops will provide an overview of important tax considerations that people about to commence a business should consider. \nAbout the workshop:\nThis workshop will consider how the business structures (whether a sole trader\, partnership\, company or trust) can influence who has the tax obligations\, as well as the rate of tax. This workshop will explain: \n\nthe basic premise of the different business structures\nhow your business structure choice can affect income\, deductions and tax rates\, and\nhow the business structure influences the relationship with workers (such as employees and contractors).\n\nAbout the presenter:\nDr Melissa Belle\nDr Melissa Belle Isle is a lecturer in taxation law. Melissa’s research focuses on Australian small business cash flow concerns due to taxation and owner literacy. \nMelissa is also passionate about improving the tax literacy of Australians and regularly delivers learning opportunities to community groups to assist with increases in literacy. Melissa is co-director of the Griffith Tax Clinic. \nThe Griffith Tax Clinic provides a free tax advisory service to unrepresented taxpayers and allows Griffith students to further their skills to be work-ready once completing their studies. \n
