The trick is understanding all of them because you don’t want to claim anything you’re not entitled to\, but you also don’t want to miss the little-known tax deductions that could save a bundle on your tax return. \nAbout the workshop:\nThis workshop will consider what it means to be a sole trader\, and what are tax obligations required\, such as the need for an ABN\, whether GST registration is needed\, as well as the rate of income tax. \nThis workshop will explain:\n\nthe basic premise of sole-trader (contractor)\nthe ideas behind what is business income\nwhat expenses are likely to be deductible\, and\nsuperannuation obligations\n\nAbout the presenter:\nBrett Freudenberg\nBrett Freudenberg is a Professor – Taxation at Griffith University (Australia). \nBrett is known for his research expertise in the tax law and policy issues facing private enterprises\, as evidenced by his Fulbright Scholarship (2006) and over 90 refereed publications in leading Australian and international journals. \nBrett is passionate about education being a transformative process\, and his effectiveness as a teacher has been recognised through five national awards (including the award of two Australian Learning and Teaching Council citations: 2008 & 2011). \nDr Melissa Belle\nDr Melissa Belle Isle is a lecturer in taxation law. Melissa’s research focuses on Australian small business cash flow concerns due to taxation and owner literacy. \nMelissa is also passionate about improving the tax literacy of Australians and regularly delivers learning opportunities to community groups to assist with increases in literacy.
