Little Red Dumpling transforms old warehouse into state-of-the-art facility in Woodridge

A new high-end food manufacturing facility has established in Woodridge, choosing redevelopment to maximise the benefits of locating in Logan.

Little Red Dumpling, founded by Jerry Liang in 2014, specializes in handmade dumplings and traditional Chinese food with an innovative twist. Starting with its first store at Pinelands Plaza Brisbane, it has grown to 20 franchises across southeast Queensland, supported by a central kitchen and distribution system. The menu features a variety of dumplings, including pork, chicken, lamb, wagyu, seafood, and vegetarian options, along with other Chinese dishes like Xiao Long Bao, pancakes, noodles, rice, and snacks. All items are made fresh daily using high-quality ingredients and are reasonably priced to ensure affordability for local communities.

Instead of a new build on a greenfield site, owner Jerry decided to enlist the services of Proudlock Pty Ltd to redevelop an ageing warehouse into a cutting edge refrigerated facility.

Establishing in a developed area meant that Little Red Dumpling could take advantage of Logan’s great transport connections, to better service their 24 restaurants and source their workforce from a large catchment.

“With support from the Logan City Council’s economic development team, we were able to establish our new multi-million dollar central kitchen at an existing site in Logan.

“We did this to ensure we can grow our franchise network and create new supply opportunities.

“Every dumpling served at a Little Red Dumpling restaurant is now made at this high-end facility. We currently have 20 restaurants located across south east Queensland, including three in Logan.

“Importantly, our new kitchen is one few in Australia fitted with specialised equipment that increases our production capacity and efficiency. This means we can offer more affordable prices to customers.

The 2,000 sqm facility was completely redeveloped to meet modern food production standards. Work included:

  • Full sewer, water, and plumbing relocation
  • Refrigerated panel installation
  • Defined separation of areas & temperature zones
  • Sanitary design & drainage systems
  • Cold storage rooms, blast freezers & chillers
  • Backup power, humidity & airflow control
  • Solar panels & gas installation

Cris from Proudlock hopes the new facility will enable Little Red Dumpling to expand their restaurants, and belives there is plenty of opportunity for redevelopment in the area with many sites with the potential for uplift.

“This was an incredible project to deliver for our client and provided the opportunity to undertake a redevelopment in Underwood, within the City of Logan. Underwood and surrounding suburbs such as Slacks Creek, Shailer Park, and Springwood are fantastic locations for redevelopment, and we look forward to working on more projects in these areas in the near future.”

With limited greenfield sites in the city, and opportunities to redevelop brownfield sites in strategic locations, redevelopment presents a great option for businesses looking to move or expand in Greater Brisbane.
