DESCRIPTION:The sessions cover foundational concepts\, legal obligations\, strategic planning\, emerging technologies\, and the critical role of people and culture in cyber resilience. \nCybersecurity Introduction \nAn overview of cybersecurity fundamentals\, including common threats such as phishing\, malware\, and ransomware. This session helps SMBs understand the importance of protecting digital assets and the potential impact of cyber incidents on business operations. \nPrivacy Act and NDB Scheme \nThis session outlines the legal responsibilities of businesses under the Privacy Act\, including the Notifiable Data Breaches (NDB) scheme. SMBs learn how to identify\, respond to\, and report data breaches\, ensuring compliance and maintaining customer trust. \nSMB Cyber Strategies \nFocused on practical and scalable cybersecurity strategies tailored for SMBs. Topics include risk assessment\, access control\, incident response planning\, and leveraging practical tools and services to protect business systems and data. \nArtificial Intelligence & Cyber Security \nExplores the intersection of AI and cybersecurity\, including how AI can enhance threat detection and automate responses. The session also addresses emerging risks associated with AI technologies and how SMBs can prepare for future challenges. \nCyber Hygiene & Culture \nEmphasises the importance of fostering a cybersecurity-aware culture within organisations. Topics include employee training\, secure practices\, and leadership’s role in promoting cyber hygiene. Participants learn that cybersecurity is not just a technical task but a shared responsibility rooted in organisational values and behaviour. \n  \nWhat’s in it for me? \nAs a small or medium business owner\, this workshop offers you more than just cybersecurity awareness—it provides a practical advantage. You’ll gain practical insights into protecting your business from costly breaches\, understand some of the implications under the Privacy Act and NDB scheme\, and learn how to implement scalable security strategies that fit your operations. With the rise of AI\, you’ll also explore how emerging technologies can both strengthen and challenge your defences. Most importantly\, the workshop emphasises building a culture of cybersecurity—empowering your team to be your first line of defence. It’s not just about tools and policies; it’s about creating a resilient business environment where security is part of everyday thinking. \n  \nSpeaker Bio \nSamuel Leicester is the General Manager at Holocron Cyber\, where he champions a people-first approach to cybersecurity—one that integrates security into the very culture of an organisation. \nWith over 12 years of experience in IT leadership and project management at Digi International and NBNco\, Samuel brings a strategic mindset to the evolving challenges of cyber risk. His career includes leading multimillion-dollar cost reduction programs\, implementing governance frameworks\, and driving operational excellence by leveraging industry best practices and frameworks. \nThough new to cybersecurity\, Samuel’s emphasis on organisational culture and team empowerment makes his insights especially valuable for small and medium business owners navigating the complexities of digital protection. \nIn this session\, Samuel will explore how SMBs can foster a security-minded culture where awareness\, accountability\, and proactive thinking are embedded across teams. His message: Cybersecurity isn’t just a checklist—but a shared mindset driven by people. By cultivating a culture of vigilance and responsibility\, businesses can build true resilience against evolving threats.

SUMMARY:Cashflow and Tax Implications
DESCRIPTION:Logan Office of Economic Development (LOED) has partnered with Griffith University Tax Clinic and Small Business Financial Counselling Service to present you with this workshop. \nCommencing a business is difficult with many decisions required to be made. One of the decisions that sometimes is overlooked is the ‘tax’ implications of running a business. Tax is an important consideration as ignoring it can result in penalties and interest charges\, but it can also influence the cash flow of the business. This series of workshops will provide an overview of business cash flow and how tax can influence it. \nAbout the workshop:\nThis workshop will consider how the various types of taxes (particularly income tax and GST) can influence a business’s cash flow\, not only in terms of profit margin but also when payments are due. The workshop will also look at: \n\nCash flow concept\nHow tax (income tax\, GST and superannuation) can influence cash flow\, and\nHow hiring workers influence cash flow and tax obligations.\n\nAbout the presenter:\nBrett Freudenberg\nBrett Freudenberg is a Professor – Taxation at Griffith University (Australia). \nBrett is known for his research expertise in the tax law and policy issues facing private enterprises\, as evidenced by his Fulbright Scholarship (2006) and over 90 refereed publications in leading Australian and international journals. \nBrett is passionate about education being a transformative process\, and his effectiveness as a teacher has been recognised through five national awards (including the award of two Australian Learning and Teaching Council citations: 2008 & 2011). \nDr Melissa Belle\nDr Melissa Belle Isle is a lecturer in taxation law. Melissa’s research focuses on Australian small business cash flow concerns due to taxation and owner literacy. \nMelissa is also passionate about improving the tax literacy of Australians and regularly delivers learning opportunities to community groups to assist with increases in literacy. Melissa is co-director of the Griffith Tax Clinic. \nThe Griffith Tax Clinic provides a free tax advisory service to unrepresented taxpayers and allows Griffith students to further their skills to be work ready once completing their studies. \n
