DESCRIPTION:The Federal Government has implemented far-reaching amendments to Australia’s workplace relations laws since its election\, posing significant new challenges and compliance requirements for industry. \nWith almost all of these amendments now in force\, Ai Group is running a series of interactive workshops around Australia providing practical guidance to equip organisations to navigate key elements of these changes. \nThe sessions will focus on ensuring employers are able to manage and achieve compliance with new rules relating to matters including: \n\nChanges to casual employment – restrictions on who can be a can be a casual and the new requirements relating to casual conversion as well as the issuing of the casual information statement\nThe ‘Right to Disconnect’ & the additional requirements of the recently implemented modern award term dealing with this right\nRegulated labour hire arrangements orders – implications for those that use labour hire and labour hire providers\nChanges to the obligations and risks for employers relating to employee requests for flexible working arrangements\nThe new test for who is an ‘employee’ as opposed to an independent contractor\, and how to mitigate the risks arising from changes to the prohibition on ‘sham contracting’\nLimitations on the use of fixed term contracts\n\nThe workshops will also provide an opportunity for organisations to share their perspectives and practical challenges related to the implementation of the above regulatory requirements. \n  \n\n  \n  \nThis program has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations through the Productivity\, Education and Training Fund grant program.

SUMMARY:Lean Manufacturing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Over a period of two days\, this workshop highlights lean manufacturing and other related productivity improvement concepts\, reinforced by the simulation of a series of manual processes (typically representing production or office processes) by using hands-on and ‘learning by doing’ principles. \nSeveral ‘Runs’ will be conducted in the workshop\, with participants progressively improving each run by changing the simulation process according to the Lean principles introduced between each run. Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) will be measured for each run\, revealing quantitative improvements during the course of the Workshop. \nThe 2-Day Workshop will cover the following topics:\n· Waste reduction\n· Value stream mapping (VSM)\n· 5S workplace housekeeping and organisation\n· Teamwork\n· Set up reduction\n· Pull systems (kanbans)\n· Visual Performance Measurement (VPM)\n· Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)\n· Standard work\n· Focused Improvement \nThese leanings can then be implemented within individual businesses to improve and streamline output. \nThis event is designed for 2-3 key personnel from each business\, including the business owner\, GM\, CFO and/or managers to attend the two-day workshop. \nThis event is free of charge. \n

This workshop will explain: \n\nthe basic premise of the different business structures\nhow your business structure choice can affect income\, deductions and tax rates\, and\nhow the business structure influences the relationship with workers (such as employees and contractors).\n\nAbout the presenter:\nBrett Freudenberg\nBrett Freudenberg is a Professor – Taxation at Griffith University (Australia). \nBrett is known for his research expertise in the tax law and policy issues facing private enterprises\, as evidenced by his Fulbright Scholarship (2006) and over 90 refereed publications in leading Australian and international journals. \nBrett is passionate about education being a transformative process\, and his effectiveness as a teacher has been recognised through five national awards (including the award of two Australian Learning and Teaching Council citations: 2008 & 2011). \nDr Melissa Belle\nDr Melissa Belle Isle is a lecturer in taxation law. Melissa’s research focuses on Australian small business cash flow concerns due to taxation and owner literacy. \nMelissa is also passionate about improving the tax literacy of Australians and regularly delivers learning opportunities to community groups to assist with increases in literacy. Now is the time to have your say on issues that matter most to you! \nOn 26 September\, Logan City Council\, in conjunction with the Australian Government’s Office for Youth\, are holding a youth consultation workshop to hear from you on the development of an Australian Government youth engagement strategy. \nThe consultation will be co-hosted by the Australian Government Office for Youth and the Youth Steering Committee. \nYou’ll have the chance to talk directly with: \n\nmembers of the Australian Government Office for Youth\nmembers of the Queensland Government Office for Youth\nmembers of the Youth Steering Committee\n\nThis is your chance to speak on matters that are most important to you\, including but not limited to: \n\ncost of living\nmental health\nclimate change\nchild and youth safety\nyouth unemployment and underemployment\nhousing affordability and access\neducation\, skills and training.\n\nInsights from the day will help to inform the development of the National Youth Strategy which is designed to support young people now and into the future. \nCatering will be supplied during the session. \nThe workshop is FREE to attend but registrations are essential.

Tax is an important consideration as ignoring it can result in penalties and interest charges\, but it can also influence the cash flow of the business.
