SUMMARY:Ai Group Workshop: Implementing New Workplace Relations Obligations
DESCRIPTION:The Federal Government has implemented far-reaching amendments to Australia’s workplace relations laws since its election\, posing significant new challenges and compliance requirements for industry. \nWith almost all of these amendments now in force\, Ai Group is running a series of interactive workshops around Australia providing practical guidance to equip organisations to navigate key elements of these changes. \nThe sessions will focus on ensuring employers are able to manage and achieve compliance with new rules relating to matters including: \n\nChanges to casual employment – restrictions on who can be a can be a casual and the new requirements relating to casual conversion as well as the issuing of the casual information statement\nThe ‘Right to Disconnect’ & the additional requirements of the recently implemented modern award term dealing with this right\nRegulated labour hire arrangements orders – implications for those that use labour hire and labour hire providers\nChanges to the obligations and risks for employers relating to employee requests for flexible working arrangements\nThe new test for who is an ‘employee’ as opposed to an independent contractor\, and how to mitigate the risks arising from changes to the prohibition on ‘sham contracting’\nLimitations on the use of fixed term contracts\n\nThe workshops will also provide an opportunity for organisations to share their perspectives and practical challenges related to the implementation of the above regulatory requirements. \n  \n\n  \n  \nThis program has been funded by the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations through the Productivity\, Education and Training Fund grant program.

SUMMARY:Lean Manufacturing Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Over a period of two days\, this workshop highlights lean manufacturing and other related productivity improvement concepts\, reinforced by the simulation of a series of manual processes (typically representing production or office processes) by using hands-on and ‘learning by doing’ principles. \nSeveral ‘Runs’ will be conducted in the workshop\, with participants progressively improving each run by changing the simulation process according to the Lean principles introduced between each run. Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) will be measured for each run\, revealing quantitative improvements during the course of the Workshop. \nThe 2-Day Workshop will cover the following topics:\n· Waste reduction\n· Value stream mapping (VSM)\n· 5S workplace housekeeping and organisation\n· Teamwork\n· Set up reduction\n· Pull systems (kanbans)\n· Visual Performance Measurement (VPM)\n· Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)\n· Standard work\n· Focused Improvement \nThese leanings can then be implemented within individual businesses to improve and streamline output. \nThis event is designed for 2-3 key personnel from each business\, including the business owner\, GM\, CFO and/or managers to attend the two-day workshop. \nThis event is free of charge. \n

One of the first decisions that need to be made is what business structure to use. The business structure might as a sole trader\, partnership\, company or trust. This decision affects many legal relationships\, as well as tax. This series of workshops will provide an overview of important tax considerations that people about to commence a business should consider. \nAbout the workshop:\nThis workshop will consider how the business structures (whether a sole trader\, partnership\, company or trust) can influence who has the tax obligations\, as well as the rate of tax. This workshop will explain: \n\nthe basic premise of the different business structures\nhow your business structure choice can affect income\, deductions and tax rates\, and\nhow the business structure influences the relationship with workers (such as employees and contractors).\n\nAbout the presenter:\nBrett Freudenberg\nBrett Freudenberg is a Professor – Taxation at Griffith University (Australia). \nBrett is known for his research expertise in the tax law and policy issues facing private enterprises\, as evidenced by his Fulbright Scholarship (2006) and over 90 refereed publications in leading Australian and international journals. \nBrett is passionate about education being a transformative process\, and his effectiveness as a teacher has been recognised through five national awards (including the award of two Australian Learning and Teaching Council citations: 2008 & 2011). \nDr Melissa Belle\nDr Melissa Belle Isle is a lecturer in taxation law. Melissa’s research focuses on Australian small business cash flow concerns due to taxation and owner literacy. \nMelissa is also passionate about improving the tax literacy of Australians and regularly delivers learning opportunities to community groups to assist with increases in literacy. By actively engaging with your network\, sharing relevant content\, and leveraging the platforms’ features\, you can effectively grow your business connections and reach your target audience. \nAbout the speaker\nDr. Sathiya (Sam) Ramakrishnan is a trained Neuroscientist from Harvard Medical School\, USA. He is passionate about understanding consumer behaviour and leveraging neuroscience to create effective marketing strategies. With years of experience in the field\, he has developed a reputation for his deep insights into the subconscious drivers behind consumer decision-making. He was always intrigued by the intersection of psychology and marketing\, recognizing the power of human emotions in influencing consumer choices. His consultancy firm aimed to empower business owners with actionable insights derived from the latest neuroscience research\, helping them optimize their marketing strategies and achieve their business goals. Sam is not only dedicated to his consultancy work but shares his knowledge and insights with fellow marketers and entrepreneurs through content delivery\, training & workshops. DESCRIPTION:Logan Office of Economic Development (LOED) has partnered with Griffith University Tax Clinic and Small Business Financial Counselling Service to present you with this workshop. \nCommencing a business is difficult with many decisions required to be made. One of the decisions that sometimes is overlooked is the ‘tax’ implications of running a business. Tax is an important consideration as ignoring it can result in penalties and interest charges\, but it can also influence the cash flow of the business. This series of workshops will provide an overview of important tax considerations that people about to commence a business should take into account. \nAbout the workshop:\nThis workshop will consider how the business structures (whether a sole trader\, partnership\, company or trust) can influence who has the tax obligations\, as well as the rate of tax. This workshop will explain: \nthe basic premise of the different business structures\nthe ideas behind what is business income\, and\nwhat expenses are likely to be deductible. \nAbout the presenter:\nDr Melissa Belle Isle\nDr Melissa Belle Isle is a lecturer in taxation law. Melissa’s research focuses on Australian small business cash flow concerns due to taxation and owner literacy. \nMelissa is also passionate about improving the tax literacy of Australians and regularly delivers learning opportunities to community groups to assist with increases in literacy.
