This month the City of Logan hosted the 2026 Heyball World Cup, one of the world’s premier cue sports events.

Logan Office of Economic Development (LOED) was central to attracting this world-class event to the City of Logan. Through our investment attraction team’s extensive networks, we were connected to the World Pool Association and the World Confederation of Billiards Sports, and we worked to find them a suitable location in the City of Logan. Key to our engagement was early engagement, strong council support (including meeting with the Mayor, and with representatives from Council’s event-capable venues), and positioning Logan as a long-term partner rather than a one-off host.

LOED staff showed them a clear pathway around venues, community uptake, and how Heyball fits into Logan’s broader sports and events strategy (including international events and legacy outcomes). This was a good fit with their Olympic ambitions and we helped path a way with different stakeholders (including the Queensland Government and Olympic Committee). Logan was able to demonstrate the perfect fit with sports like American Pool and Heyball with venues like the Centre of Excellence at Marsden State High School.

Given the scale of the World Cup, organisers engaged a suite of local suppliers to transform the Marsden State High School hall into a purpose-built, international-standard sporting arena—delivering a significant boost to local businesses and demonstrating Logan’s capability to support global sports events.

Originally planned for a 2027 debut, the inaugural tournament was brought forward to 2026 to accelerate Heyball’s campaign for Olympic inclusion. Staging the event in Australia strengthens the sport’s bid for a place in the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, while elevating Logan’s profile as a host city for emerging international sports.

Strategic Alignment Secured the Win for Logan

Events of this scale highlight that the City of Logan is a city of choice for global competitions. They reinforce our readiness to support and host activities linked with the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games and strengthen our position as a rising destination for world‑class sport and events. The transformation of the Centre for Excellence at Marsden State High School showcased exactly how these types of sports could be hosted in the region. The Logan Indoor Sports Centre will add capability in the lead-up and during the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
